Mike Miller, CFP®

Mike Miller spent the first part of his career courageously serving as a law enforcement officer.  He is a graduate of the F.B.I. National Training Academy at Quantico, Virginia.  As he moved up the ranks, from Sergeant to Lieutenant to Captain, he realized his passion for helping others with personal conversations around life and money.  He helped educate his colleagues on their pension plans, budgets, and retirement planning. 

Today, he uses his human relations skills and financial knowledge at Integra Shield Financial Group, LLC to help his clients navigate, manage, and prepare for life’s transitions.  Mike is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner, having met the education, experience and ethical standards of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc.  As a CFP® Mike always works in the best interest of his clients.

He began his financial services career as a district representative with Aid Association for Lutherans, which later became part of Thrivent Financial a Fortune 500 financial services organization. He then went on to establish Integra Shield Financial Group. He holds the Series 7, Series 63, and Investment Adviser Representative registrations. Mike earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Western Illinois University at Macomb, Illinois.  Mike’s other prior business experience includes owning, managing and selling a franchised hotel in West Central Minnesota.

Mike completed family mediation training at the Hamline University School of Law Mediation Center and is a Rule 114 qualified neutral listed on the Minnesota Supreme Court statewide roster.  He provides divorce-planning services as a financial neutral to couples and participates in mediation.  He also works with one spouse and/or their attorney to help them develop and fully understand the impact of their financial settlement options. In January 2014, Mike began a three-year term on the Board of Directors for the Collaborative Law Institute of Minnesota.  He is the current Co-President Elect.  He will serve as Co-President in 2017.  The vision of the Collaborative Law Institute of Minnesota is to transform the experience of dispute resolution (divorce and other disputes) into a healing process for clients, practitioners, and the larger community.   Mike serves on the board of Collaborative Divorce Professionals as its President.  He is a member of the Cooperative Practice Network and the International Association of Collaborative Professionals. 

Mike is known throughout the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area as a subject matter expert on the topics of life transitions, divorce, Social Security, retirement planning, and retirement income planning.  He has conducted presentations on these topics to hundreds of attendees in public workshops and professional groups including the Minnesota State Bar Association Family Law Section, the Ramsey County Bar Association, the Family Law Institute, the Collaborative Law Institute, and Divorce Camp.  He has been featured in the Star Tribune, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and Investment News.

Mike served a five-year term on the Board of Directors for the Financial Planning Association of Minnesota, an 800 plus member organization of certified financial planners and allied professionals. He held positions as Member Services Director, President elect, President, and Board Chair. One of the many highlights of his term included organizing the first ever charity golf tournament benefiting a young child through the Make a Wish Foundation. As a result, a young girl’s dream for a trip to Disney World to see the Disney princesses became true. The charity golf tournament now carries on each summer to benefit a local charity.  Mike remains a member of the Financial Planning Association of Minnesota.

Mike is also an active member with the Twin West Chamber of Commerce in Plymouth and his church, having served two terms there as President.  He recently received an appointment as an Advisory Board Member to the Glory of Christ Lutheran Church endowment fund. 

Mike is a lifelong learner and an avid golfer who loves to get out on the course to play a round with his son Josh. He enjoys reading, learning, and spending time with family, especially his son Josh, daughter Heather and her husband Steve in Colorado, daughter Kelly and her husband Derek in Minnesota, and their families.
